It is wet!

Posted by admin on March 27, 2012

It has been a while since I last blogged. It has been very wet here the past couple of weeks, and so it has a good time to plant those rainforest trees that have been waiting patiently in their tubes. Last weekend we planted at least 30 trees in a clump by the side of the drive to the studio. We mainly plant Mabi rainforest trees as the Mabi rainforest type is endangered as it likes to grow on fertile soil, and thus over the past century it has been cut down to make way for farming. We are doing our little bit to provide habitat for my beloved tree kangaroos!

Now the trees are well watered in, I have been able to spend some time in the studio, filling orders and finishing off a very large Flindersia pod. It is a real freedom to be able to make large sculptural pieces, as until now I have been restricted by the size of my kiln.

I have spent some time with a couple of artist friends of mine, and we are thinking of exhibiting together. We all work in different media - ceramics, textiles and painting, and we are thinking of having a theme of books! It is a very exciting challenge for me as the last time I worked towards a theme was at uni! The two other artists I am working with are also very passionate about their work and  they provide me with the sustenance and inspiration to conceptually explore and push the boundaries of my chosen medium and get me out of my comfort zone!

I will keep you updated with my progress.
