Keeping boys busy

Posted by admin on January 9, 2012

It is still the school holidays. 2 weeks to go. Whilst I absolutely love having the boys home and would be quite happy to puddle around home with them, I have to start spending more time working in the studio to build up stock levels again and get the creative process rolling for my new exhibition pieces. Dilemma is though, I don't like to leave the boys, even though they are old enough, home alone for 3-4 hours at a time because I know that they will spend all that time on either their ipod, xbox or play computer games. So yesterday, the boys came to the studio with me and spent their time in the workshop building the dog a kennel. They measured the dog, sketched out a design, sourced scrap bits of wood, measured and cut with the saw, drilled holes and screwed it all together. I was really proud how they worked together as a team and although the kennel is a little wonky, it is now ready to be clad with some second hand iron. So much better than sitting in front of a screen! They were proud of what they had made too. I was able to get some work done, even though I was interrupted frequently (Finn would quickly break me out of the zone with "Mum, look at this!" on a regular basis), but I think we were able to find balance - I was happy, they were happy!
