Lesser sooty owl

Posted by admin on September 10, 2012

I can't believe that I got an email from Lark Publishers in the U.S. stating that my image of "Lake Eacham Lightscape" has been accepted for their book "500 Prints on Clay"!

I had sent Lark books an image of my "Lake Eacham Lightscape" last year, and as I hadn't heard from them, I had assumed that I had not been selected. Lark publishers have a lot of books showing various different subjects and media such as 500 bowls, 500 glass objects etc. I have always found them to be a great resource in the studio. 500 Prints on Clay will be in the shops in March next year. There is always a bit of a thrill to see your work in print!

I have been very busy in the studio lately, with trying to finish a large functional pottery order and making a large 12 piece mould of a Lesser Sooty Owl. I am intending to slip cast this owl at least 6 times for an installation for an exhibition I am in in October. The Lesser Sooty is an Owl endemic to the Wet Tropics and I want to make a statement about how a creature can easily turn from 'common' to endangered.
